P.L. Casebeer and J. P. Statler established the first local jewelry store in 1889 in conjunction with an optometry department. The store occupied the center storeroom of the Frease Building along Main Street in uptown Somerset, until recently, the location of the J. J. Newberrys Store. In 1914, the partnership of Casebeer and Statler dissolved and Statler began his business at another location. Prior to 1914, Mr. Casebeer hired a young man named Harvey E. Stahl, who later trained at the Bowman Technical School in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He mastered the watch making, jewelry, and engraving trades. Just a few years later Harvey Stahl became Casebeers partner in the business. This partnership continued until the late 1920s. Taking the name Stahls Jewelry. Harvey Stahl retired in 1958 but his legacy has continued with the addition of skilled and dedicated ownership leading to today with Bob Suter and Jeff Keiser. Stahls Jewelry is owned and operated by community involved people and also employs three people along with the three partners.Stahls Jewelry strives to ensure a very special customer experience and always puts customer service first.Stahls Jewelry: Your Family Jeweler Since 1889 and Proud Member of the Independent Jewelers Organization
