The company operates more than 190 supermarkets and over 25 drugstores in seven states, including Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska and South Dakota. Founded in 1930, Hy-Vee stores are full-service supermarkets with bakeries, delicatessens, banks, florists and pharmacies. The company also operates gas stations with convenience stores on some of its properties. Hy-Vee owns several nonretail subsidiaries, including D & D Foods, Florist Distributing, Hy-Vee Care, Lomar Distributing, The Meyocks Group, Midwest Heritage Bank and Perishable Distributors of Iowa. The company employs more than 50,000 individuals and is one of the largest employers in Iowa.
