Acceleration Iowa was founded in May 2004 by two Iowans, Geoff Jensen and Jack Whitver, both from Grinnell and participants in several sports during high school and college. The gym specializes in speed and strength training, specifically Frappier Acceleration Sports Training (FAST) programs, catering to an audience of mostly elementary, middle and high school students. However, all age groups are welcome. Acceleration Iowa is a member of the Athletic Republic. Package pricing begins at $95 a month.

Farrell's offers 10-week "Extreme Bodyshaping" programs that feature daily 45-minute kickboxing or resistance training classes focusing on strength, endurance, flexibility, nutrition and weight loss. The program begins with a three-hour orientation in which each member works with a coach to shape the program to fit his or her goals. Afterwards, each member continues to receive personalized attention from the coach, including at least one email exchange per day. Members can choose to continue attending classes for an extra fee when the initial 10 weeks are over.
