Tacachale is operated by the Agency for Persons with Disabilities, which is administered by the state government of Florida. Established in 1921, Tacachale is one of the oldest and largest residential communities for the developmentally disabled in Florida. It serves more than 450 adult men and women in over 30 homes. The community also serves medically complex persons and patients with mental illnesses. It features semiprivate rooms and employs nearly 1,000 staff members. In addition, Tacachale accommodates men who have autism spectrum disorders and those remanded by the courts to forensic programs.

Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranch was founded in 1957 and is located in Boys Ranch, Fla. It is a nonprofit, residential child care and family service organization. Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranch offers a broad range of programs, such as residential group child care, family services, and camping services aimed at meeting the diverse needs of Florida s youth and families. It has more than 320 people in its organization that include social workers, counselors, therapists and house supervisors for youth and their families. Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranch also has a Boot Camp that is a government operated correctional facility and handles juveniles by providing a home and family for abused, neglected and troubled children.
