Boone Hall Farms has a long and extended history of farming and helping to supply the lowcountry since 1681. John Thomas Boone, originally an Indian trader, received the land known as Boone Hall Plantation as a grant from the Eight Lord Proprietors. The plantation was bought and sold a few times with most of the crops being sold to northern states.
After WWII, Harris McRae returned to Charleston to continue the produce business and purchased the plantation in 1955. McRae turned the plantation into U-Pick strawberry. In 2006 produce returned to the farm and is now known as Boone Hall Farms.
Today the farm produces a full-line of fresh vegetables and fruits, fresh cut meats and local seafood are offered also. Recently opened inside the store is The Boone Hall Farms Market Cafe. It serves all the fresh-grown items, meats, seafood, sandwiches, gumbo and burgers.
