The history of Holland-Coble Funeral Home dates back before the turn of the 20th century. In May 1900 AB & Susie Siverling purchased the Weickle Furniture & Funeral business in Montezuma. Both of the Siverlings were licensed funeral directors. Mr, Siverling died in 1924 and in December 1929 the business was purchased by S F, Steffy. Mr Steffy died in January 1937. His wife, Florence Steffy then went to mortuary school and received her license in 1938, The first funeral home in Montezuma was established by S F. Steffy in 1931 in the first house east of Break Point. After the war Mrs. Steffy was joined in the business by her son Keith and his wife Jean. They purchased the present location where Holland-Coble Funeral home is located in 1941. In 1947 the Steffys purchased the Ross Funeral Home also located in Montezuma. In 1983 the the Funeral Home was sold to Craig Watts. The Watts family owned and operated the bussiness until 2008 when it was sold to the current owners Eric Coble and Brent Holland.

In 1850, William Harrison founded the funeral home. In those days people brought strings the length of the body, and coffins were made to order. His furniture and undertaking parlor was located in the Romer Bakery Building in Maquoketa. The current location of the funeral home was established in the 1930s. The three-generation business was sold in 1950 to James F. OHara & George Haylock, area residents and funeral directors. They operated the business until their retirements. The Lahey family purchased the business from the Haylock-OHara families in 1988. Hayden Funeral Home was established in Oxford Junction, Iowa in 1918, by Clyde Hayden. In 1942, his son, Lewis Hayden, joined the firm and in 1943, Lewis purchased the business. In 1963, Clyde s grandson, Lynn Hayden, joined the firm and in 1977, Lynn purchased the business. Donald Woodley joined the firm in 1986, and became Lynn s partner in 1993. Wallace Funeral Home at Wyoming was purchased, and in 1988, the Malamphy Funeral Home at Lost Nation was purchased, for a total of four Hayden Funeral Home locations.

Memorial Services of Iowa, located on Ankeny Boulevard adjacent to Ankeny Memorial Gardens Cemetery, offers a funeral chapel and services. The facility contains a bright and open foyer and atrium area for friends and family to gather and a conference room for planning services. There is also a product room featuring monuments, urns, benches and headstones, as well as modern chapel with a waterfall, vaulted ceilings and natural lighting. This is Ankeny's only locally-owned funeral home.
