Provider's Choice is part of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and is a federally funded initiative that is sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). CACFP is charged with reimbursing licensed or registered child-care providers for serving nutritious meals and snacks to the children for whom they care. More than 5,000 child-care providers are members of Providers Choice, making it the largest single state Food Program Sponsor in the country. This program is free. As an example of its benefits, if a provider is serving breakfast, lunch and a snack to six children for 21 care days each month, it can expect to be reimbursed between $2,751 and $5,715 per year. The hope is that this program will encourage day-care providers to stick with healthy food choices, meaning more of America's children are eating right.
