The history of the Brownsburg Fire Department dates back to the 1920s. The organization started as a volunteer group of individuals that had a two-wheel cart that was drawn by hand in the event of a fire. The main alarm system, at that time, consisted of a bell on the top of the Edgar Tharp building. The water system was installed around 1923. In the years that followed, modernization efforts allowed the department to acquire additional trucks, vehicles and ambulances. In 1997, the Fire Station was rebuilt to its present location in Brownsburg, Ind.
