Barber Foods is specializes in producing chicken products to satisfy many appetites. The company began in 1955 with one employee, a beat-up truck and a butcher knife in a 1,000-square-foot facility. When a local grocer wanted to sell precut chicken but didn t have the manpower to do it, Barber Foods found an early niche by becoming the first company in the Northeastern United States to sell cut-up chicken. In 1965, Barber Foods introduced portion-controlled products, such as chicken breasts, chicken nuggets and became the first company to offer stuffed chicken entrees, including Chicken Cordon Bleu and Chicken Kiev. Today, the company employs more than 700 associates from more than 50 countries. Its facility in Westbrook, Maine, is a 150,000-square-foot production facility. Barber Foods also has retail stores throughout the United States.
