The Town Clerk fields requests for copies of vital records, issuance of marriage licenses, dog licenses, sporting licenses, raffle permits and business certifications. The Town Clerk serves as a notary for the public and also oversees elections and town meetings.
The Worcester County Food Bank is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing food to the hungry in 60 cities and towns in central Massachusetts. It collects food to distribute through the Hunger-Free Network. The Worcester County Food Bank is also involved in advocacy and offers programs in food and nutrition. Volunteers and donations are welcome.
The police department has 42 officers including one chief, three lieutenants, six sargeants, and 32 patrol officers. They also have seven civilian dispatchers and five clerks as well as the animal control officer. Traffic related issues continue to be a major concern for residents and a priority within the department. The police department also has a presence in the schools through the school resource program.
Shrewsbury Youth & Family Services, Inc. (SYFS) is a non-profit, community counseling and education agency serving the town of Shrewsbury. We provide individual and family counseling, support groups, parent workshops/seminars, trainings on child/adolescent issues, after school programming, and other family services. We also help families with fuel assistance applications and other resources.
The Assessor's Office oversees the full and fair valuation of all town property. It has a two-member board and a full-time assessor. Residential property values remain the highest portion of real estate value in the town, at 88 percent.
