The Roaring Fork Transportation Authority has been in operation since 1983 and is operated by a Rural Transportation Authority. It, also known as RFTA, serves customers in Basalt, Carbondale, Glenwood Springs Aspen, Snowmass Village, Pitkin County and Eagle County in Colorado. The authority provides commuter bus services. The Roaring Fork Transportation Authority operates a fleet of more than 80 vehicles. It carries over and carried 4 million passengers annually. The authority has received the Large Transit Agency of the Year award by the Colorado Association of Transit Agencies. The Roaring Fork Transportation Authority manages and maintains trail corridors.
