Freewheeler Bicycle Center is located in downtown Davis, on the corner of 2nd and F streets. This store has been family-owned for three generations, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The store has a large selection of new bicycles, as well as bike gear, clothing and shoes. There is also a repair shop, where the staff members can perform repairs and maintenance on your bike.
Davis Sport Shop is a small, locally owned sport shop that offers an array of shoes, backpacks, gym apparel and other sporting goods, much of which displays the UC Davis logo and name. Outside of the shoes, much of the sporting goods are of the generic sort, depicting school colors and names. The store offers lettering service, embroidery, screenprinting and carriesofficial UC Davis gear. The proprietor tries to keep certain equipment stocked with the appropriate sport seasons and often the employees are themselves athletes from UC Davis.
B&L, next door to Zia's Delicatessen, is one of the oldest bike shops in Davis, having been in business since 1965. B&L carries a wide range of bikes geared towards the commuter and Davis style riding including a large selection of cruisers, commuter bicycles and children's bicycles. B&L also has a large collection of accessories for any type of bicycle. With a full service repair shop and a service only check-in counter, B&L offers professional bike repairs and tune-ups. B&L also offers loaner bikes while clients wait for repairs.
Ken's Bike and Ski, located next door to Sweet Briar Books, is a large shop that sells, rents and repairs snowsport equipment, bicycles and cycling equipment. The slogan is, "We are serious about your fun." This seems to be the case, as this is the only shop in Davis that carries BMX, dirt jump bikes and mountain bikes; the selection that Ken's offers is huge, with plenty of sales associates available to help guests with selections and questions. Although there are racks and racks of bikes on the main floor of Ken's, unlike many bike shops in Davis, the selection of accessories rivals that of the bikes; the fact that Ken's Bike and Ski has been voted the top bike shop in Yolo County by the Davis Enterprise for three years in a row, from 2007 to 2010, is a testament to the quality of this Davis institution.
Volleys Tennis Shop, located next door to French Cuff Consignment, is a small but packed tennis shop, offering a selection of tennis equipment, accessories and clothing, as well as a racket stringing service. The walls are adorned with banners depicting the name brands available at the shop and the manager, Katherine, is usually available to help customers with questions and requests. Even though the shop is small, there are few tennis related products that the store does not carry. It is the only shop in Davis that specializes solely in tennis products.
Soccer & Lifestyle is located in downtown Davis, next to Logos book store. When you walk in, you may see the store owner sitting on the couch watching the soccer game, and you can too (while you're trying on cleats). This store carries soccer, lacrosse and rugby equipment and accessories.
Rocknasium, located at the west end of Olive Drive, is a long standing Davis institution; it is an indoor rock wall gym, and while it is hardly esthetically pleasing from the outside, it contains plenty of fun on the interior for people of all ages and skill levels. The gym has huge lofted ceilings, allowing for a number of climbing walls of all levels. Rocknasium is well known for their lack of pretentiousness, treating beginners and seasoned veterans with the same amount of respect. They offer rentals for shoes, harnesses and chalkbags, as well as classes and memberships of differing durations. In addition, there is a small fitness room, a pro-shop selling all sorts of climbing gear and a front counter where you can buy an assortment of energy enhancing products. Both of the owners are often on hand and take an active role in training, teaching and helping with all aspects of the day to day fun.
Throughout the spacious, well-lit sales floor sports enthusiasts will find quite a selection of basketballs, tennis rackets, football pads, badminton nets, speedo swim suits among other things. The staff is low-key, but if you have questions they're available, knowledgeable and considerate.
