Founded in 1985, Midwest Eye-Banks is a nonprofit organization that recovers, evaluates and distributes human eye tissues for transplantation. It operates Illinois Eye-Bank, Michigan Eye-Bank and Lions Eye Bank. The organization accepts eye, organ and tissue donations. Midwest Eye-Banks offers cornea transplantation services. It organizes several public and professional educational programs. The organization s ambassadors are a volunteer group of the corneal transplant recipients and family members of eye donors. Midwest Eye-Banks has various locations in Illinois, Michigan and New Jersey. In addition, it provides humanitarian aid to those unable to afford transplantation procedures.
