Saint Mary's Episcopal Church and School in Lakewood has a history of serving military families. After walking through the front doors, the crimson carpet in the forum opens up and the chapel holds a congregation.
The school and teachers are an important piece to the Church. The year-round education and summer daycare program helps maintain a consistent, positive message.
Founded more than 150 years ago as Christ Church, this congregation moved to its current location at Third and Patchett Streets in 1932. The Gothic-revival church is home to three worship services -- informal, traditional and contemporary -- each weekend, as well as Sunday school, Bible study and 12-step meetings.
St. Simon the Fisherman Episcopal Church is a cozy church that serves as a place of worship for about 40 households. It traces its origins to 1965, when small groups of Episcopalians began meeting here, and then in 1966, services began at the church regularly. It offers support groups and outreach services to the community, and invites visitors to join them for its Sunday worship service and coffee hour.
