Members of the church first began meeting to discuss forming a Protestant Episcopal Church in Wellesley in 1891. Women outnumbered men in the group. In 1892, the mission was admitted as a parish at the Diocesan convention. The parish took the name St. Andrew's, at the urging of Senior Warden John A. Porter, a member of the original St. Andrew's in Plymouth, England, which dates back to 1087.

The church has three floors and includes the Wellesley Montessori School. The rector is Addison Hall, who has been with the church since 1990.

The church parking lot is just west of the church on the left side of Washington Street between Denton Road and Cottage Street (traveling west on Washington). Parking is also available on Denton Road and Washington Street. The public lot located on the corner of Weston Road and Washington Street is also available on Sunday mornings.
