P.S. 084 Jose De Diego is a magnet school for visual arts. Its standards-based instructional programs meet the social, emotional and educational needs of students. The school also offers a variety of extracurricular activities related to reading and math. Its comprehensive arts program includes drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpturing. P.S. 084 Jose De Diego organizes trips to art museums and local studios. It also conducts parent workshops and features over 90 staff members. Established in 1969, the school occupies an area of more than 95,000 square feet. P.S. 084 Jose De Diego has an enrollment of more than 500 students in prekindergarten through grade five.

M.S. 27 is a public middle school that occupies the first and second floors of a large, four-story school building on the corner of Gates and Stuyvesant avenues. (The building was under construction when we visited.) The school serves grades 6 through 8, with an academic focus on math and science. Student enrollment is 391. In addition to math and science as a focus, the school also offers vocational education, special education, speech/language pathologists, "extended day" programs and ESL courses.

P.S. K315 provides educational opportunities for more than 800 students in pre-kindergarten through grade five. The school s curriculum includes performing arts, music, drama, reading, English, math, science and social studies. It offers a range of athletic activities for the development of physical fitness and socialization skills. In addition, P.S. K315 administers the Title I program. The school provides transportation services, as well as extracurricular activities, such as band, chorus and dance. It maintains a library that houses a variety of books and study materials. P.S.
