Texas State Teachers Association, established 1880, is one of the largest member-controlled, professional organization in the world. It is credited with authoring statewide teacher salaries and the teacher retirement system of Texas. It authored certification laws, and bills to establish maintenance and operation funds for schools. The organization offers an online teaching and learning center for teachers at all levels. It provides online guides for more than 1,000 instructional topics, daily almanac, calendar of world holidays, and guides to every state and country in the world. Additionally, it offers e-mail lists for over 150 instructional topics, current event articles on world news, health, science, fine arts, literature, space, astronomy, sports and entertainment, and student research skill development exercises. Located in Austin, Texas, it is affiliated with the National Education Association in Texas.
