Blackburn Center, located in Greensburg, Pa., is a nonprofit organization working toward protecting the rights of people, in order to live free from violence and oppression in their homes and communities, and provides support services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Blackburn Center responds to the issues of physical and emotional battering, sexual assault, sexual harassment, and child sexual abuse. The center s client services are free and confidential. It staffs more than 30 employees supported by an active team of volunteers. It offers a comprehensive training program for all volunteers who work with clients, focusing on the development of active listening skills and an understanding of the issues commonly faced by the victims. The center also offers academic internships at undergraduate and graduate levels. It has developed an array of services for adult and child victims of sexual assault and domestic violence, as well as comprehensive school and community education, and professional in-service training programs.
