Dr. Kim received his Bachelor of Science degree from Trinity College in Hartford, CT. He earned a medical degree from the State University of New York at Brooklyn School of Medicine, where he graduated Cum Laude. He completed his general surgery internship and residency training at Saint Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center in New York City, and his fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Kim is currently Section Chief of Colorectal Surgery at Banner University Medical Center. He is also an adjunct faculty member of the Phoenix Integrated Surgery Residency program at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center. Dr. Kim’s dedication to surgical education was recognized in 2011, when he received the Attending of the Year award from the chief residents of the Phoenix Integrated Surgery Residency program. During medical school and residency training, Dr. Kim was integrally involved in researching cancerous tumors, melanomas and cancer vaccines. He published his research in journals such as Oncology, Journal of Surgical Research, and Surgical Oncology: Multidisciplinary Approach to Difficult Problems. He also gave presentations to the New York Surgical Society in New York, NY and The Society for Biological Therapy at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Kim is board certified in general surgery and colon and rectal surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. He is a member of the Society for Biological Therapy and the American Medical Association. He has been in private practice since 2005 and has been named a Top Doc in Phoenix Magazine. Dr. Kim specializes in laparoendoscopic (minimally invasive) treatment of colon and rectal disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal malignancies and benign anorectal diseases. He is skilled in robotic assisted da Vinci Surgery techniques, performs Transanal Hemorrhoidal Dearterialization (THD) for internal hemorrhoids and Transanal Endoscopic Microsurgery (TEMS) for the removal of rectal tumors and early stage rectal cancers. He also regularly performs screening colonoscopy for the early detection of colon cancer.
