I believe that medicine is both a science and an art. The best type of medical care combines the latest scientific knowledge with a patients preferences. A physicians job is to deliver personalized medical care and bridge the gap between science, culture and expectations. I strive to connect with patients and understand their needs.  I also believe that medical care requires a team based approach.  I work hard to coordinate care with other physicians.  The care I provide is only as good at the nurses, medical assistants, front office staff, and back office staff I work with.  Our team focuses on providing great service and compassionate care.

I like to educate patients, listen to them, answer their questions, and thereby empower them to make the best treatment decisions as individuals.  I also utilize a team-approach to provide excellent patient care. I decided to become a Gynecologic-Oncologist for the unique combination of interesting surgical procedures along with the opportunity to get to know my patients and their families through continuity of care.

When a patient presents with a new cancer diagnosis, I clarify the potential goals of treatment, cure or palliation. If cure is the goal, it means 100% eradication and permanent removal of the disease. Palliative treatment controls cancer activity while preserving quality of life. Oncology has evolved to be a complex specialty and other specialties like pathology, surgery and radiation are involved at all stages of workup and treatment. I usually review the most up to date information using peer-reviewed databases like National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) clinical practice guidelines. Family is encouraged to attend appointments, take notes, and ask questions. It is important for the patient and his/her family to be informed of the natural history of the cancer, prognosis, treatment options, and side effects of treatment. This would allow them to make the most appropriate decisions about their care.
