Independent Delivery Service was formed in 1973 to provide alternative distribution of second-, third- and fourth-class mail for businesses in the seven-county metro area of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minn. With a delivery capacity of up to 870,000 households and businesses, it is one of the largest private postal systems operating in the country. The company has 70-plus full-time employees that use a fleet of more than 30 vehicles to hand deliver flyers, circulars, product samples, coupons, advertising materials, phone books, local newspapers, newsletters and campaign literature. IDS delivers more than 30 million pieces per year and provides service for more than 300 clients.
