Oriental rugs naturally fall into disrepair for a variety of reasons from normal wear & tear, moth damage, mildew, dry rot & accident stains. A rug can develop worn fringes, selvedges & sides. This is entirely normal. The ends & sides were designed for the purpose of protecting the far more valuable pile-knotted portion of the rug. This type of damage may require you to have a portion of your rug rewoven and/or reconstructed. Work of this kind should only be attempted by highly skilled artisans who have been trained in such work.
