Working with the Office of Therapeutic Recreation Services, the Maryland Council for Special Equestrians (MCSE) offer therapeutic horseback riding for children and adults with disabilities. Horses help with fitness, balance, socialization and communication. Autistic participants, in particular, seem to connect with animals such as horses in a way they are not able to do with other people. The council offers a variety of classes and lessons for kids and adults.
Mosaic Adult Medical Day Center is dedicated to providing and enhancing the lives of people with mental illness. It is a non-profit organization that works with many different organizations to promote recovery that is outcome focused. It offers a health center, vocational center and adult medical day center.
Head Start is the child care facility affiliated with the Catonsville YMCA. Head Start provides free child care to children of low-income families. The goal is to prepare children for success in school with help in the fundamentals of reading, writing and math. This Head Start location provides free morning or afternoon child care.
Apple Ridge Montessori School is affiliated with St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, which is located on the same grounds. The school is accredited with the State of Maryland for pre-K, kindergarten and first grade. Apple Ridge Montessori School believes that children are most absorbent from the ages of 2 through 6 years old, and the staff aims to use the student's interest and creativity to lead the lessons.
This child development center is located in the Emanuel United Methodist Church building, and parents will feel good about leaving their kids with Miss Joyce and her staff. The activities and the care provided are first-rate. The kids play games to learn letters, numbers and shapes, and there are science centers around the rooms. Children can be enrolled for full- or half-days. Emanuel's also has a co-operative program with Catonsville Elementary, so the pre-kindergarteners go from one location to the other throughout the day.
