Joyce Abate, MSEd, Carousel's Executive Director, has been involved in childcare in Norwalk for over 20 years and has owned Carousel since 1985. Focusing on childcare and education, the staff of Carousel use their previous and on-going education to provide a nurturing environment for the children to learn and grow. All staff members are required to have degrees in Early Childhood Education, or be matriculating toward their degree in Early Childhood Education.

Located in a church's school building, the facility includes 3 outdoor play areas as well as an outdoor classroom. These spaces provide an area for children to socialize while under the supervision of staff as well as allowing teachers to conduct lessons utilizing the natural environment. The school's early childhood curriculum is research-based and includes bi-lingual education classes, American Sign Language lessons and physical education.

Carousel Preschool Day Nursery goes beyond minimum licensing standards and is an NAEYC accredited program, which is an international professional organization for early childhood educators. Carousel is also a selected Norwalk School Readiness program and is licensed through the Connecticut Department of Public Health.

The YMCA runs both a full and half-day educational program designed specifically for pre-schoolers. The curriculum includes academic as well as a rich arts program.
