Montgomery County Coalition for The Homeless provides permanent and transitional housing, emergency shelter and support services. Other priorities include coordinating advocacy, program and educational efforts. This includes spearheading an effort to end homelessness in the county. 

MCCH programs seek to help chronically homeless adults and formerly homeless individuals and families settle into housing. This includes transitional and permanent housing. Safe havens, care and treatment for the mentally ill are also part of the mission   

The MCCH is a community-based nonprofit organization started in the 1980s with an informal network of shelters, soup kitchens, government officials and church congregations. The effort was officially incorporated in 1990. It's funded by government contracts and private donations.

Founded in 1978, NAMI Montgomery County is a nonprofit organization that serves children and adults living with mental illness. The organization provides education and advocacy for people with serious and persistent mental illness. It offers psychoeducation courses to caregivers, consumers and community members. NAMI Montgomery County advocates for nondiscriminatory local, state and federal policies based on the recommendations of the NAMI Maryland Public Policy Committee. It offers a family to family education course for families of people who exhibit bipolar and panic disorder behavior. The organization additionally hosts a range of workshops and meetings annually. It is an affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, which is headquartered in Arlington, Va. NAMI Montgomery County is located in Kensington, Md.
