HOPE House is a place where people recovering from mental illness find the support and resources they need to pursue their goals and dreams. The clubhouse program focuses on the abilities and talents of members, offering educational, social and employment opportunities. HOPE House is located in downtown Port Chester, NY and draws members from the entire region. It is modeled after Fountain House in NYC, which pioneered the concept and philosophy of this approach that has been successfully replicated around the world.
Westchester ARC is the oldest and largest agency in Westchester County serving adults and children with developmental disabilities and their families. Founded in 1949 by a group of parents of children with mental regardation, Westchester ARC has grown to an organzation of over 600 employees who serve more than 1,600 people in the county. Early intervention, teen youth groups, and living skills classes for adults are just a few of the services offered.
St. Francis AME Zion Church is a Port Chester based religious institution serving members of the local community with regularly scheduled worship services. Natalie Wimberly serves as pastor at St. Francis AME Zion Church and leads Sunday prayer at 9am and worship at 11am.
Cerebral Palsy of Westchester was founded in 1949 by a network of volunteers, helping disabled children gain access to medical treatments and services new to area hospitals. Martie Osterer was one of these volunteers. She enlisted her husband David, a Westchester businessman, in forming a partnership of caring community volunteers and professionals committed to making the necessary services and programs available to everyone in need.
While the original focus was on individuals with cerebral palsy, the mandate has continually expanded to reach children and adults with a variety of developmental disabilities.
Today the David G. Osterer Center in Rye Brook serves as the nucleus of a network of more than a dozen locations throughout Westchester County. Those satellite programs and residential sites have been developed to provide for the ever-expanding and changing needs of disabled individuals throughout the community.
The Bakery Confectionery Union, including the Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers, has more than 8 million members. The Bakery and Confectionery Workers International Union of America, one of the pioneers of the North American labor movement, was organized in 1886, later merging with the Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers. The Port Chester chapter is located on North Main Street.
Founded in 1999, the Neighborhood Preservation Company is a non-profit, HUD-approved Housing Counseling Organization located on Adee Street in Port Chester. The agency provides free and comprehensive housing counseling to residents of Port Chester and the surrounding communities free of charge, hosting regularly scheduled workshops on topics like financial literacy, foreclosure prevention, tenant rights and responsibilities and home buying.
Family Services of Westchester is a private, not-for-profit, non-sectarian agency with its headquarters in Port Chester. The company's health services cover a broad range of social and mental programs custom-designed to meet the particular needs of children, teens, adults, and the elderly through eight Family Centers. Family Services of Westchester is staffed with over 450 professional and Master's-level social workers, psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, child care workers, nurses, certified home health aides, multi-lingual clinicians,; peer counselors and early-childhood educators.
Bethesda Baptist Church is a small community church situated on the border of Rye Brook and Port Chester. Located on William Street, parishioners can find the church between Smith Street and South Pearl Street. Bethesda Baptist Church is presided over by Pastor Gerald Washington, and holds worship services on Sunday at 10am.
Founded in 1866 in Byram, Conn., St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church moved to Rye Brook in 1966. Named after the first missionary of the Christian Church, St. Paul's serves communities in Greenwich, Conn. and Rye and is associated with the Metropolitan New York Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. In addition to having a child care center, St. Paul's offers youth programs and adult bible study groups, and sponsors missionary programs. Pastor James O'Hanlon directs and runs all worship services.
The Knights of Columbus was chartered by the Connecticut State Legislature in 1882 as a fraternal benefit society, thanks to the efforts of Father Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor at St. Mary's Church in New Haven and some of his parishioners.
The Knights of Columbus was formed in order to render financial aid to members and their families. Mutual aid and assistance are offered to sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief work.
The Knights of Columbus has grown from one council to more than 13,000 councils with more than 1.7 members. Charity has always been the first principle of the Knights of Columbus. Since the year 2000, the Knights have donated more than $1.3 billion to charity.
