Culinary Workers Union Local 226, located in Las Vegas, represents workers in Las Vegas casino industry, food and service workers at McCarran International Airport, the Las Vegas Convention Center, Valley Hospital and the Nevada Test Site. It has an organizing program, research department and grassroots political organizing department. It provides training programs and worker activism programs. The union is also known as an organizing local as it focuses on the organization of nonunion workers. It is affiliated with the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees International Union that was established in 1891 and represents approximately 300,000 workers in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
