The organization is a member of the National Knights of Columbus Association, which was founded in 1882 to promote charity, unity and fraternity. Disabled American Veterans Chapter 129, which is located on Dequindre Road, is also known as the Big Red Barn. The chapter is a member of the national Disabled American Veterans Association. The building is often rented out on the weekend for events and used on the weekdays for DAV and VFW meetings. Also, a bi-weekly flea market is held at the hall on Sundays and Tuesdays, from 7am to 3pm.
The Salvation Army is known for many kinds of help throughout the country. In Shelby Township, its Family Store and Donation Center raises money to help others through their resale efforts of clothing and home items. You can find bicycles, television sets and other electronic items, dishes, shoes and many other items that people donate. The center is located just north of 23 Mile Road, off the east side of Van Dyke Avenue.
