In existence since 1934, the congregation at Palos United Methodist is active in a number of activities. Active groups include men's bible study, yearly youth mission trip, quilter's group, ecumenical bible study and yearly vacation bible study. The church Web site offers times and days for these activities. The church is also host to AA meetings Mondays and Fridays at 7pm, Al-Anon meetings Thursdays at 7:30 pm and area camera clubs.  A childcare provider is available during Sunday services.

Life Church prides itself on creating a community for its members to be part of.  Life Church is in fellowship with the Church of God, and is pentecostal in nature. The church sponsors many programs, including youth groups, bible study groups, men's and women's ministries and family dinners. It also participates in various missions. The idyllic surroundings of Lake Katherine provide a natural oasis for many Palos area residents. A walking trail stretches around the entire lake and is used by many. Benches dot the trail for those looking to stop and reflect. Several botanic gardens featuring a variety of flowers and other plant life are must-see spots for children and adults alike. A small waterfall and wooden platform are frequent backdrops for  wedding photos of area couples.

The nature center also offers a variety of youth programs aimed to spur interest in environmental and preservation issues. Various field trip programs are also offered to area schools. Lake Katherine Nature Center is currently operated as a non-profit charitable organization.

Since its founding in 1953, the Church of the Good Shepherd has grown to a large and active community of worshipers. The Church has ministries for children, young people and adults. Congregation members connect through a number of groups and recreational activities. Junior high and high school students have the opportunity to participate in a number of outings and summer trips. Sunday school is held during the 11:00am Sunday service. Good Shepherd also boasts an active music program.

Palmer Park is a fairly large park surrounded by a residential area. The park has a fairly new jungle gym surrounded by a number of trees and benches. A sand volleyball court lies nearby, as well as two tennis courts and a basketball court. There is a large open field perfect for outdoor sports like football, soccer or baseball.

The department occupies a large community center that contains classrooms, a preschool, a gym, tennis courts, dance studios and workout rooms. Classes are offered in a variety of areas and change seasonally. The very popular summer camp keeps kids occupied during their time away from school. The newly renovated workout rooms and dance studios are also increasingly popular. The Palos Heights swimming pool and all public parks are managed through this department.
