By far the largest art gallery in Davis, this former fraternity house was purchased and extensively remodeled in the early 2000s by John Natsoulas, a patron of the arts here for many decades. Unlike many art galleries which are awkwardly fitted into re-purposed buildings, Natsoulas had his gallery spaces designed to display art to its best advantage. Under 25-foot ceilings and tall windows bring in lots of natural light to the gallery spaces arrayed on three floors.

Many prominent West Coast artists—including Wayne Thiebaud, Robert Arneson and many members of the well-known, irreverent and iconoclastic "California Funk" school which flourished at UC Davis in the 1960s—have had shows here over the years.

In addition to monthly gallery openings and shows, Natsoulas  sponsors several annual arts-oriented events which draw thousands of enthusiasts to Davis every year. The "California Conference for the Advancement of Ceramic Art" (CCACA) is a hands-on, three-day conference series of lectures and workshops during which prominent artists teach the latest ceramic techniques. "Beats Happening" includes not only radical visual arts displays, but as the name implies, poetry slams, free jazz concerts, dance recitals and much more along the groundbreaking lines inspired by the beatniks of 1950s San Francisco.

Well-established shrubs and trees help the park blend in with this quiet neighborhood and add a charming rural atmosphere. The lawn is wide enough to accommodate soccer players or frisbee throwers. There's a moderate-sized play structure available along with several picnic tables and grills and a full basketball court. A bike path provides a short cut between two cul-de-sac streets.

It's hard to tell from up close, but the gently sloping hill dominating this park does resemble the back of a whale. Inside the park, a gigantic jungle gym, tubular slides, a teeter-totter, and swings are anchored in soft sand. Picnic tables and grill units are clustered under tall trees, and bordering the large lawn, a bike trail leads to neighborhood streets.

The sports accommodated here are soccer, softball and swimming. Anyone can drop by and kick a soccer ball around in the ball diamond outfield--when softball games aren't in progress. These officially sanctioned games occur during the summer. That's when family and friends fire up the barbecue grills, have tailgate parties in the City Hall parking lot and/or cheer on their loved ones from the tree-shaded bleachers behind home plate.

Attached to the rear of Davis's City Hall (formerly Davis High School), the Olympic-sized pool is available only for city-sponsored swimming organizations--public swimming is not allowed.

King High and the Senior Center anchor the northern reaches of the ball fields.

The name of this Chinese Christian church may seem a little misleading, considering the dozens of churches there are in Davis. The name comes from certain passages in the Bible, according to the founder of this movement, Ngà Táuk-sng, a leader and writer in the early 20th century, who wrote: "There should be just one church in a city." Thus each "local church" of this orthodox denomination (there are more than 2,000) is named for the city in which it is found.

This is one of Davis's largest parks. Open meadows blend with playgrounds behind Willet Elementary School to the south. Tennis and basketball courts beyond the playgrounds are open to the public after school hours.

A large and intricate play structure rises in the center of the park. There are several picnic tables and benches nearby for families to enjoy while watching the kids. A major bike trail meanders through the north side of the park and crosses Highway 113 via a bridge to far west Davis.
