The Fort Dearborn Post 364 is the American Legion veteran's center. A calendar of post events for veterans and the community can be viewed on the website. Bob Korenchuk is the commander here.
Opened in 2003, this 69,000 square-foot facility includes a fitness center, gym, indoor track, exercise studios, outdoor terrace and multipurpose room. Gymnasium and room rentals, including gym or audio-visual equipment, are available for $30 to $100 per hour. The rec center also houses a pro shop and food concessions.
For over 50 years, the Sonoma Community Center has supported the artistic and educational life of the city, by sponsoring public programming. It offers classes in pottery, painting, music, yoga, jazzersize and various elements of personal development. Its large auditorium regularly supports theater performances, movie nights, and gallery shows. The artist-in-residence program brings recognition and support to professional and student artists. The space also functions as an incubator for non-profits, and many local groups have gotten their start here: including the Boys and Girls club of Sonoma. YMCA, founded in 1844, is a nonprofit whose mission is to build healthy bodies, minds and spirits in the residents of the 10,000 neighborhoods where it works today.
The Y has been in New Rochelle since before 1900 and at its Weyman Avenue location since 1984. It boasts more than 3,500 members. It offers youth camps in the summer; a variety of membership discounts; and such sporting facilities as a cardio workout room, squash courts and a large swimming pool.
Homestead Valley Community Center is tucked away into the Homestead Valley area of Mill Valley which is just up the hill from the Miller Ave. area. This community center is ideal for meetings, parties, weddings and other private functions. From April 17 through October 17, the pool is open to the public from 12 pm to 6pm, pending no private functions.
Holly Community Center is the western hub for Union City's leisure activities. Activities include ballet, tap and jazz, hip-hop and belly dance lessons, jazzercise classes, martial arts courses and seasonal youth camps. Details can be found in the Leisure Services' activity guide.
The community center also houses the Holly Preschool, a licensed full day program offered through the city's Leisure Services department. The preschool offers full-time or part-time programs for children ages 2.5 to 5 years old. The preschool was also dubbed The Best Preschool in Union City in our Readers' Choice 2012 contest.
Holly Community Center is also a great location for banquets, parties and events. The auditorium room holds up to 250 guests and features a wooden stage and kitchen. The smaller senior room holds up to 90 people. Rental rates are available on its website.
