The Palm Desert Chamber of Commerce is comprised of 1,100 members. The chamber has a five star accredited rating, one of only two in the state, and often puts on networking events, produces a newsletter, and represents the interest of local businesses to legislators. The Historical Society of Palm Desert is located in the first firehouse of Palm Desert. A classic fire truck sits in front and there plaques about that tell a short story of the building. Inside is filled with historical aerial photographs of the area from the 1940’s up to the 1980’s. Many historical fun facts about the desert are available here. The purpose of this facility is to provide access to guests and residents of the history of Palm Desert. It is located close to downtown El Paseo and is a great place to visit.
Community Access Center offers community outreach programs that work with people with disabilities in the Palm Desert area. Services in system advocacy, individual advocacy and peer counseling are designed to help the disabled reach the highest level of self-sufficiency possible.
The Palm Desert Community Center and gymnasium is a local recreation and activity center based on San Pablo Avenue. The location offers both indoor and outdoor facilities, including a multi-purpose room, a kitchen, an indoor basketball area, racquetball courts, table tennis games, a volleyball court, and a weight room. The Portola Community Center has permanent tenants and community rooms available to non-profit organizations and community groups. Day-to-day operations are run by the Coachella Valley Recreation and Parks District, who is in charge of scheduling events and needs for the facility.
The center includes two community rooms, eight offices and two kitchens that are available for use. Tenants and users of the facility may utilize the resources of the center for free if they meet certain requirements. Applications for use of the center are all approved by the city and posted on a six-month calendar.
Sun City Palm Desert is an active adult community. Welcoming the public to join them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Sun City offers catering for special occasions, birthdays, weddings, meetings and reunions.
