Located on Cole Avenue, the Hollywood Recreation Center is administrated by the City of Los Angeles Recreation and Parks Department. The Center features lighted outdoor basketball courts, a children's play area, a community room and an auditorium.
The American Legion is a national veterans service organization. This location is Post number 43 and has been operating in Hollywood since 1919. The building itself resembles an Army barracks but with art deco architecture. An honor roll of American war heroes decorate the outer facade. The courtyard contains a war memorial complete with an antique cannon. The building itself is available for private events including live shows, film shoots and receptions. The hall has a rich heritage and was a favorite place for local artists and politicians. Humphrey Bogart was a regular at the roaring-'20s-style basement bar. The American Legion Hollywood Post is also the location for many films and television commercials. Come for the museum, stay for the drinks.
The Montecito Heights Recreation Center is located in the heart of East Los Angeles. Open daily, the center features an auditorium, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, a playground, tennis courts, gym, volleyball courts and picnic areas.
The Shambhala Meditation Center of Los Angeles offers a variety of classes, programs, workshops, retreats and community activities for those interested in meditation and its benefits for everyday life. Courses in meditative arts, including Shambhala Art, flower arranging, Zen archery, contemplative photography and contemplative writing are also available, allowing students to express themselves creatively through meditative activities. Formerly founded and known as the Eagle Rock Community Cultural Center, the Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock, is a nonprofit organization located in the historic 1914 Carnegie Library whose building has long been famous for its Spanish-style mission revival architecture. Best known for its art openings, eclectic gallery exhibitions, education programs and special events, including those concerning community affairs, the center also is a popular facility for concerts, dance performances, weddings, birthday parties, fundraisers, receptions and corporate functions.
The California Endowment is a private, statewide health foundation working to promote quality healthcare resources in underserved areas. The organization is focused on providing resources for health in neighborhoods, schools and more with a variety of preventive and innovative measures, concentrating on much more than just access to doctor's offices. Echo Park Recreational Center inhabits the center, as well as a number of facilities around Echo Park. The sizeable indoor gymnasium sits right on the edge of Echo Lake on Bellevue Avenue. It is used as a gym, with basketball courts, year-round pool and more, as well as an auditorium in which numerous events take place, and a community room. The gymnasium's capacity is 450. Outside and around the lake you'll find lighted baseball diamond and basketball courts, children's play area, football field, an outdoor pool and award-winning tennis courts. They also have picnic tables, and the Annual Lotus Festival takes place here. They have both summer and winter camps for kids of all ages.
The L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center provides various services for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community throughout Los Angeles County. It features a career center, the Lily Tomlin Jane Wagner Cultural Arts Center, HIV prevention and education programs, enrichment courses, conversation groups and volunteer services.
The Ramona Hall Community Center is immediately adjacent to Sycamore Grove Park on North Figueroa Street. It is available for rent for a wide range of functions, including weddings. The hall features an auditorium and a rentable practice room for bands.
Chinese Historical Society of Southern California is located at the edge of Chinatown in a very unassuming little house that is brimming with photos and information about the Chinese-American experience and specifically the history of immigrants to Los Angeles and Southern California in general. The intent of the Chinese Historical Society of Southern California is to "increase awareness of Chinese-American heritage through public programs, education and research." It is celebrating 30 years of contributing to Chinese-American culture and life here in Los Angeles.
American Legion Post 206 is Highland Park's local American Legion branch. American Legion Post 206 features a 200-person capacity dance hall for private rental or for live music gatherings. American Legion Post 206 also houses a club room for its members that includes a full bar open five days a week. Its members gather annually for patriotic events and the branch also offers veterans rehabilitation services and honor guard funerals, among other benefits.
