In Chicago in 1888, three women who shared a passion for education and a desire to make a difference in the lives of  children laid the foundation for what is today National Louis University. Now a modern facility committed to innovation and best practices in urban teaching and graduate education, NLU was the first university founded on the radical idea of training women to teach kindergarten. It has since become a school that excels in creating learning communities where theory complements practice, and attracts college students who want to make a difference in their lives and in their communities.

The college was formerly on the west side of Chicago, but in 1958, a new classroom and administration building was completed in suburban Skokie and operations in the new location began at once. To this day, the goal of encouraging each student to pursue general knowledge, while providing the best Judaic Studies program possible is the aim of the HTC.
