The Institute for Research on Labor and Employment was formerly the Institute of Industrial Relations. It conducts research on workplace issues and trains current and future labor leaders. Recent research touches on African-American prospects in the economic recovery, how health care reform might affect low-income Californians and how the labor movement can attract young workers, particularly women. The Institute is headquartered in a former apartment building on Channing Way, three blocks from the main campus.
