Founded in 1952, MCAR, also known as the Mercer County Association for Retarded Children, provides services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Mercer County, Pa. Its programs include residential services, in-home family supports, vocational habilitation, socialization and recreational activities, and job and coaching. The association works with a team of more than 150 staff members and serves over 500 people. MCAR s recreation programs administer various activities, such as bowling, bocce, dances, and visiting amusement parks, traveling and attending concerts. It is a subsidiary of the Arc of Mercer County, which is a private, nonprofit corporation that was formerly known as National Association For Retarded Children. The corporation is located in Hermitage, Pa.
