Founded in 1975, Toward Independence is a nonprofit agency and has offices in Cincinnati and Xenia, Ohio. It provides services to more than 140 individuals with mental disorders and other developmental disabilities in the southwest region of Ohio, including Greene, Hamilton and Montgomery counties. The center offers a wide range of care services and support programs that include health, errand, daily living assistance, independent skill development, transportation services, and homemaker and personal care programs. In addition, it offers housing services and assistance with coordination and acquisition of financial benefits. Toward Independence provides its services through licensed residential group settings, personal homes and apartments, and family and caregiver homes, and it also offers Inner I Gallery programs, which hosts exhibits of more than100 works of art created by individuals with mental disorders and other developmental disabilities.
