The License Center serves the general public as a Minnesota Department of Public Safety Deputy offering licenses for autos, driver renewals, boats, snowmobiles, off road vehicles, hunting and fishing. It also offers passport services.
The Hopkins Pavilion is a community meeting space, with a little bit of everything happening all year round. Come springtime, the center's arena is covered in synthetic turf, where all come to play various field sports. During summertime, the grounds are open for group picnics and inline skating. The winter season transforms the arena into an ice rink. These facilities are also available for private or community event rental.
The Eagan Civic Arena is a ice skating venue located near city hall. It offers hockey events, ice skating events, lessons and public skating. The on-premise pro shop offers skating accessories, blade sharpening and equipment repair and cleaning.
Eagan Civic Arena hosts special functions such as birthday parties. Turf activities, including softball, are also offered during certain times of year. Free Wi-Fi is available at the arena.
Both volunteer and paid firefighters work for the Oakdale Fire Department. There are eight full-time firefighters and 38 volunteers that respond to Oakdale fires. Paramedics who have advanced life support skills are also part of the fire department. For kids considering a career as a firefighter or paramedic, the department offers the Fire Explorer program. The fire department also occasionally holds open houses.
Arneson Acres Park is the perfect place to stop and smell the roses (and lilies, azaleas and magnolias). The park is home to 28 gardens. The park also features a fountain in the center of the formal gardens. The park's gazebo includes pillars from the historic Wooddale School. Pets are not allowed in the gazebo and garden area.
The Community Development Department relies on the help of the Planning Commission, the City Council and the Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA) to regulate housing, commercial redevelopment and land use in Richfield. In the first decade of the 2000s, the Department worked on the development of Cedar Point Commons near highway 77, City Bella on 66th Street and Lyndale Avenue and Kensington Park on 76th Street and Lyndale Ave. The Department is located at City Hall.
