In downtown Sarasota, City Hall is home to city commissioner meetings and other various other meetings such as the Downtown Improvement District. The commissioners meet on Monday and Tuesday on the first and third weeks of each month. City Hall is also where you can pay your parking tickets.

The box office is located on the east side of the building and the entrance is on the north. The Van Wezel opened in 1970 with a performance of Fiddler on the Roof.
