The Utilities Department is a division of the city government of Kearney, Neb. The department maintains a wastewater treatment plant and sewer collection facilities. It has a sanitation department that provides services related to garbage collection and the disposal of household hazardous waste. The Utilities Department maintains a landfill division that provides disposal services for asphalt, concrete, appliances and wood pallets. The department s water division produces more than 25 million gallons of water per day. Its water division also administers water distribution, as well as provides water conservation tips. In addition, the Utilities Department maintains a recycling division that offers recycling services for newspapers, glass bottles, plastic, cardboards and rechargeable batteries.
