The City of Boston Board office is run by the Boston Public Health Committee and acts as a real estate agent by owning and operating properties to rent to those in need. Founded in 1971, its mission statement reads, "To protect, preserve, and promote the health and well-being of all Boston residents, particularly those who are most vulnerable." There is an extensive waiting list for some of its properties.
This department issues public health advisories, runs nursing clinic programs and conducts health inspections and environmental control. Karen Rose is Medford's director of Public Health.
