Mt. Vernon Community Mental Health Center house mental health programs offered to residents in the Mount Vernon area of Fairfax County. The center is named after the Gartlan family who was well known in the community and state for their decades of advocacy for those suffering from mental illness, congnition disabillities and addictions.
Managed by Director James B. Spengler, the Alexandria Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities Department is housed at the Lee Center in Old Town. The department does everything from publish a recreation program guide to offering year-round camps and classes. It oversees pools, parks, concerts and much more. The department operates seven neighborhood centers and four specialty centers.
