Meeting at the URI Bay Campus, the members of the Atomic Energy Commission discuss the role of atomic power in the state, and also the regulation of the research reactor on the campus. Although it is situated on Westmoreland Street in Narragansett, this Wastewater Treatment Plant processes waste from South Kingstown and the University of Rhode Island. The building is closed to the general public.
Located in a government complex across from the URI Bay Campus, the Atlantic Ecology Division of the EPA studies how human development affects the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Several labs are on the property, along with the Paul P. Yevich Research Library, which responds to public information requests when it is possible. The facility has been conducting research since the early 1970s, when scientists first found gonadal cancer in clams from Narragansett Bay.
