The others are located at Marina del Rey, Zuma Beach and Hermosa Beach. Lifeguards are tasked with rescues, providing emergency medical services to patrons on the beach, helping boaters whose crafts are disabled and other duties.

The Planning Commission is responsible for promoting the health, safety and general welfare of the community of Santa Monica. It has seven members who serve four-year terms. Members must be residents of Santa Monica and are not allowed to hold another paid position in the city government. Among the commission's roles are helping to determine the most appropriate use of land in the city, preventing overpopulation, alleviating street congestion and ensuring adequate spaces for air and light. The commission is mandated to, among other duties, make recommendations regarding proposed public works and rebuilding of parts of the city, make recommendations to the City Council regarding changes to the city's Master Plan and exercise control over land subdivisions.

The City of Santa Monica Water Resources Division handles water-related emergencies and other services. It deals with water shortages and responses to those shortages; educates the public on the proper disposal of fats, oils and grease; handles construction fees that pertain to water and sewer systems; manages water and sewer rates; provides water-quality reports; and urges the public not to flush pharmaceutical drugs. The Water Resources Protection Division handles matters involving wastewater (commercial and residential programs, quality monitoring and ordinances) and urban runoff (water-quality monitoring, and industrial and commercial facilities).

The City of Santa Monica Risk Management Division helps to ensure that assets belonging to the city, as well as its service capabilities, are protected.

In the event of accidental loss, the Division protects the assets and capabilities from potential financial consequences.

The Division also makes insurance requirements for outside service providers and contractors; investigates and adjusts liability and workers' compensation claims; and is responsible for attemping to recover, from the responsible parties, damages made to city property.

A long wait can also be alleviated with a stroll to one of the many restaurants (or Ralph's grocery store) within walking distance. As with most DMV field offices, prior appointments are recommended. The Housing Division works to preserve affordable housing in Santa Monica, and to facilitate additional housing opportunities for residents whose income is low or moderate. The division collaborates with affordable housing developers and owners of multi-family properties to ensure that longtime residents can maintain their living quarters. The Housing Division consists of three branches: Housing Production & Preservation, the Redevelopment Agency and the Section 8/Housing Authority.
