Built in 1985, San Mateo City Hall houses the City Council chambers as well as the City Manager's office, the City Clerk's office and several other important administrative offices. San Mateo residents are welcome to drop in during normal business hours and file papers or gather needed information -- and they are encouraged to come to the council chambers on those evenings (generally the first and third Mondays of every month, beginning at 5 p.m.) where the people's business is discussed and decided.
Seven county departments provide health services from this campus a few blocks west of El Camino Real on 37th Avenue. It includes Aging and Adult Services, Correctional Health, Emergency Medical Services, Environmental Health, Food and Nutrition Services, Mental Health Services and Public Health. Established in 2008, the San Mateo County Health System provides health support services for county residents. Its main divisions are Health Policy & Planning, Aging & Adult Services, Behavioral Health & Recovery Services, Community Health (which includes Agricultural Services, Environmental Health and Public Health), Correctional Health, Family Health, and the San Mateo Medical Center -- a 509-bed acute-care facility located next door at 222 W 39th Ave. The Health System also manages 15 satellite clinics, provides animal control services, performs health research and oversees the county's birth and death records.

County vehicles are repaired and serviced at this facility, located at the end of Tower Road off Ralston Avenue near the junction of Interstate 280 and Highway 92. The nearby picnic tables shaded by trees make this a popular place for county workers in other departments to spend the lunch hour.
This division of the county clerk's office handles voter registration, vote-counting, and other voting issues for the entire county. It's one of many places where you can pick up a mail-in voter registration form. It's also where you go if you want to run for office yourself; candidacy must be declared in person at the office.
