Columbine Knolls Recreation District, founded in 1964, manages swimming pools and playground areas in Littleton, Colo. Columbine Knolls Recreation s facilities include basketball and volleyball courts, children playgrounds, tennis courts, and small and large shelter areas. It has swimming pools for children and adults, equipped with water slides and diving boards. Columbine Knolls also operates a snack bar that serves a wide variety of food items, candies and cold drinks. The district offers group, private and semiprivate swimming lessons, and its Blue Dolphin Swim team participates in the Foothills Summer Swim League. It also provides tennis training for juniors and adults. It provides one of the largest track programs for children between 5- to 16-years of age, and concentrates on building skill development in various track events. Track participants compete in a statewide program under the Colorado Association of Recreation and Athletics. It rents facilities for weddings, family reunions, birthday parties and church get-togethers.

Metro Districts of Highlands Ranch is the local government agency in Highlands Ranch, Colo. Founded in 1981, it owns and maintains a network of outdoor recreation amenities, with more than 20 parks, over 70 miles of trails and 2,000-acres of natural open space. Metro Districts works with several Douglas County organizations to ensure the safety and security of Highlands Ranch community members. Tri-County Health Department is the public health department, serving the area. Centennial Water and Sanitation District is the water and wastewater utility in Highlands Ranch that provides quality water supply through its state-of-the-art Joseph B. Blake Water Treatment Plant. In addition to providing infrastructure, Metro District s works staff also cooperates with regional agencies, such as Douglas County Public Works Department, the Colorado Department of Transportation and Denver Regional Transportation District, to coordinate other transportation projects and services.
