The Walnut Creek Police Department is a full-service municipal police agency for a city of 65,000 people.

The department provides patrol services, investigations, helps coordinate neighborhood watch programs, issues massage permits and oversees parking enforcement. The chief is Joel Bryden.

  • Two-thirds are police employees are in the patrol division, whose officers are the first responders to calls for service. Within the patrol division are three sectors, which are based on geographical areas. 
  • You can report certain crimes--car break-ins and other property crimes--online. You should not use this online service to report violent, sex, hate or other serious crimes, or traffic accidents involving an injury. Also, if there is a known suspect involved, you should contact the department directly at 925-935-6400.  
  • The Community Policing Team was formed in May 1997 to help improve quality of life issues that are important to people who live and work in the city. The team works with the public to develop long-term crime prevention strategies for  residents and businesses. The team also assigns officers to serve as liaisons with local schools.
  • The department is responsible for issuing permits for anyone who wishes to a massage establishment or work as a massage technician in the city. You can obtain applications online.
  • You can pay your parking tickets online. The city contracts with Duncan Solutions to process parking tickets issued by our agency.  If you have questions or wish to appeal your ticket, call 800- 281-7275.  Have your Citation Number and/or License Plate number ready.
