The First Presbyterian Church of Athens was founded in 1820 and is located next to the courthouse. The grandiose building was erected in 1855 and remodeled in 1906. Services are held every Sunday at 8:45am and 11am. The church offers a variety of ministries such as youth groups, vacation Bible school and groups for men and women.
Habitat for Humanity is a worldwide non-profit housing ministry that helps build living spaces for those in need. The local location contains both an office where residents can apply for assistance or volunteer, as well as a large thrift store. Donations of all types are accepted, and the thrift store offers free pick-ups. There is even a selection of candy and drinks while shopping.
