Founded in 1985, the Mahwah Municipal Alliance is an organization of community volunteers and local police dedicated to helping the youth of Mahwah become great decision makers. The MMA offers outreach programs encouraging personal courage, physical and social development and general safety. Among the Alliance's programs are the D.A.R.E., Junior Police Academy, Youth Leadership Academy, Youth Athletic, “Cyber Safety,” Community Policing, Holiday Toy Drives, Holiday Party and Red Ribbon Week initiatives.
The Boy Scouts of America meet in various locations throughout Mahwah and Bergen County. As a member of the Northern New Jersey Council, this organization works to teach boys skills, abilities and ideals that will lead them into adulthood. This county-wide charity provides food for the hungry. With offices throughout Bergen County, the Center for Food Action forges relationships with needy individuals and families while providing them with a week's worth of food up to six times a year. In Ridgewood, the Emmanuel Baptist Church ABC holds a nonperishable food drive on the first Sunday of every month. A parishioner then delivers the items to the CFA office in Mahwah.
