Jewish Historical Society of Michigan is a religious and educational organization on West Maple Road in West Bloomfield. The organization works to document Jewish history in Michigan. It also sponsors programs, exhibits and tours regarding Jewish heritage. The organization works with the State of Michigan to erect permanent historical markers, highlighting events of Jewish history. It also maintains the Jewish Yearbook Collection and Database, a physical and electronic storehouse of hundreds of yearbooks from high schools throughout Michigan. Jewish Family Services, or JFS, serves the Metropolitan Detroit area. It offers a wide array of services to the community. These include access to food, shelter, adoption, counseling and addiction recovery. JFS also assists with domestic violence victims, issues in housing, citizenship and car donations. Friendship Circle is a non-profit organization providing various services for special needs children and their families. Services include counseling, employment assistance, field trips, Hebrew school, medical referrals, special education and summer camps. Volunteers and specialists work with children at home or at the center, helping kids achieve a sense of individuality and independence.
The West Bloomfield Parks & Recreation Transportation Program provides local transportation to senior citizens, ages 55 and above, as well as people with disabilities. The program serves all of West Bloomfield Township as well as many areas outside it. Medical and nonmedical transports are available; medical transports are used for doctor, dental, optical, hospital or therapy appointments, while nonmedical transports will take passengers to a number of businesses around town. Seniors may call the program to schedule a ride.
West Bloomfield Youth Assistance (WBYA) is a non-profit organization that offers professional counseling services and conducts prevention programs for youth and their families who live within the West Bloomfield School District. WBYA operates under the sponsorship and financial support of West Bloomfield Schools, the City of Keego Harbor, the City of Orchard Lake Village, West Bloomfield Township, and the Oakland County Circuit Court-Family Division with funding supplied through the Oakland County Board of Commissioners.
With house leagues for kids through adults over 40, recreation leagues for children and adults of different ability levels, and year-round classes, the Jewish Community Center Inline Hockey Center is the home of hockey in West Bloomfield Township. The IHC, located in the west wing of the JCC, also hosts drop-in hockey and birthday parties. It features a pro shop.
Building Industry Association of Southeastern Michigan is a non-profit association for the home building and remodeling industry in southeastern Michigan. Its members include builders, remodelers, property owners, developers and suppliers to the residential construction industry.
Hadassah is located at the east side of Orchard Lake Road, between Walnut Lake Road and Pine Lake Road. This local chapter of the Women’s Zionist Organization of America offers opportunities for women of all denominations, religions and races to give back to the Oakland County community, through largely off-site volunteerism.
Hadassah hosts a weekly doll-making workshop on Thursdays from 9am until 11:30am aimed at offering young women the opportunity to earn Girl Scout badges or mitzvah credit in exchange for creating a doll to give to a child at a local area hospital. Call or visit the website for more information.
This local organization assists individuals with a variety of adoption services. It facilitates direct placement and state ward adoptions for individuals who want to provide safe and secure environments and supplies them with required post-placement reports. It also provides adoption support groups, presentation of legal documents and other services for birth parents.
